Questions & Answers
Q. How much can we expect to save on our utility bills using your technology?
A. Our clients typically achieve savings of between 10% and 25% of their energy consumption and carbon emissions. In some cases savings have been in excess of 35%.
Q. And how long will it take to payback?
A. Expected financial returns are high because peak energy prices increase the value of future energy savings however payback in less than 2 years is essential because of the high occupancy turnover rates and uncertainty about being able to capture future savings.
Q. Any hidden charges, is installation included in the price?
A. There are no hidden charges. Installation and end to end project management is included in the price.
Q. Are you on the Energy Technology List (ETL) and does your technology qualify for the Accelerated Capital Allowance Scheme? (ACA)
A. Yes we qualify for both the ACA scheme and ETL. Businesses can write off the whole of the capital cost of their investment against their taxable profits of the period during which they make the investment. We are also approved for London's Green500 initiative and verified by the EU's Environmental Technology Verification scheme.
Q Which companies have installed your M2G and M3G products in the UK?
A. Royal Bank of Scotland, AVIVA, BT, Vodafone, NHS Trusts, DEFRA, O2, KPMG, DELL, Microsoft, National Maternity Hosptial, Mater Private Hospital, Department of Defence, Irish Prison Service, Bank of Ireland, Superquinn, County Councils are among some of the organisations who have already installed M2G.
Q. Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS) reduce energy consumption and from what I can gather does exactly what M2G does.
A. BEMS, typically will control the building comfort levels of specific heating and cooling zones within the building. This may be based on weather compensation and /or optimisation of stop and starts based on occupancy requirements etc. The BEMS may sequence (start/stop) the boilers based on a cascade control, however, the BEMS does not deal specifically with the boilers inherent temperature hysteresis or load optimisation, unlike the M2G. The M2G adds additional control and intelligence to the boiler, which is cannot be provided by a BEMS. For further information on how the M2G integrates with BEMS click here
Q. Do you manage the installation of your technology or will my client need to find a company to undertake the installation work for them?
A. GEM Utilities provides nationwide Project Management and installation. From the point of sale….to hand over.
Q. I’m worried if I fit your technology ambient room and hot water temperatures will not be maintained?
A. M2G always maintains the boiler thermostat / set point, the M2G cannot invoke the “save” strategies until the boiler has reached the required temperature and heating and hot water levels are not put at risk. At the begining of the 12 month NHS Trust pilot the Trust stipulated that the pilot would be terminated immediately if there were any negative impacts on the comfort levels. Throughout pilot and since the rollout there have been no reports of ambient room or hot water temperatures being affected. For more information regarding the NHS Trust pilot click here
Q. We have a Building Management System (BMS) that already does exactly what your M2G technology claims to do.
A. M2G has specifically been designed to control the boiler/burner from patented control algorithms. BMS systems typically do not have these control strategies. BMS will typically enable /disable the boiler based on a heating/return required temperature or at best from a weather compensation heating curve.
M2G gas a proven “track record”, we have many independently tested and verified project trials. Further the system has been approved and endorsed by the Carbon Trust and qualifies for the ACA scheme. Blue chip organisations such as Royal Bank of Scotland, O2, DELL, Microsfot and DEFRA would not of invested if the M2G did not deliver.
Q. I’m worried if I fit your technology ambient room and hot water temperatures will not be maintained?
A. The M2G always maintains the boiler thermostat/set point, the M2G cannot invoke the "save" mode until the boiler has reached the required temperature and heating and hot water levels are not put at risk. Independent case studies have demonstrated that the M2G has no impact on the room or hot water temperatures.

M2G, has on board intelligence to establish the best load optimisation. The system measures the required load conditions from the temperature sensors every second to calculate the boiler or air conditioning systems “true load”. By inhibiting the operation, significantly reduces wasted energy that does not directly contribute to the building comfort levels. Developed over many years, using best available technology, M2G measures and calculates the delta T and memorised firing pattern over time, related to true boiler load or standing losses and ensures that the plant (boiler) does not waste energy by firing without contributing to the system load.
Q. How can you technology help my organisation to deliver its energy and carbon reduction strategy?
A. Independent case studies demonstrate that our technology can significantly reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions. O2, the mobile phone company reduced their gas consumption by up to 27% once the M2G was installed. E.ON, the world’s largest energy supplier also achieved energy savings ranging from 20% to 26%. A reduction in energy consumption of this scale is a significant proportion of any organisations energy and carbon targets.
Q. Why should we implement your technology rather than renewable energy such as solar or wind?
A. Renewable energy sources play a key part in any energy/carbon strategy. However, working with some of the largest organisations in the Ireland we have noticed that their first priority is to establish a "baseline" of energy consumption by investing in measuring and monitoring equipment. Once this is in place they are then sourcing and investing in energy efficient technology for lighting, air conditioning and heating. It is only the technology that delivers good energy savings and viable pay back that make it through. Once, they have implemented the energy efficient technology they then turn their attentions to renewable energy, to replace the mix of fossil fuel energy they are consuming, and they view renewable energy as a longer term investment.
Energy efficiency is the most effective means of reducing your organisations carbon emissions.
Q. Once your technology is installed do I need to budget for additional operating or maintenance costs?
A. No, M2G require no maintenance or operating costs. M2G comes with a 5 year warranty.
